Terms and conditions

Any and all work undertaken with me (Felicity Wild) and my company is subject to these terms and conditions, whether it’s a one-off project, a paid consultation or an ongoing retainer.

I pride myself on being helpful and flexible, but it’s a good idea for us to have an agreement written down so we both know what to expect when we work together. I believe agreements like this should be easy to understand, so I’ve made sure this one uses clear language.

If anything is unclear, please tell me. I’ll be happy to clarify.

What do we agree to do when we work together?

As my client, you agree:

  • You have the power to enter into this contract on behalf of your organisation
  • To provide me with everything I need to complete the project, when I need it
  • To review my work, provide feedback and sign-off within agreed timescales
  • To stick to our agreed payment schedule

As the copywriter, I agree:

  • I have the experience and ability to perform the services you need from me
  • I will carry these services out in a professional manner
  • I will respect the confidentiality of any information you give me

Changes and revisions

It’s totally normal for a first draft of copy to need some edits and tweaks to reach sign-off. Because I charge by the project, I build revisions into the quotes I give.

Every project quote covers:

  • One round of edits (changes to ~10% of copy)
  • One round of tweaks (tiny changes to existing copy here and there)

This only applies until the work has been signed off, published or put to work on a live website. After that, no more changes can be made under that particular project.

I can offer more rounds of changes and edits, but it’ll be charged separately at an agreed hourly rate.

Copyright

When I've received full and final payment for the project, copyright of the work I produce is automatically assigned to you. You can then use the work however you wish.

However, until final payment is received, copyright of the work remains with me.

I love to show off my work, so I reserve the right to display a case study and link to your website as part of my online portfolio. I'll seek approval from you on anything that features your project before making it live.

Deadlines

I believe in hitting deadlines, but I can only do this with your help. I can’t be responsible for a missed deadline if you have been late with a deposit, slow to supply materials or not provided feedback to agreed timescales.

I also can’t be responsible for deadlines missed due to circumstances completely beyond my control, like family emergencies, natural disasters, war and so on.

Payments

For projects under 500GBP, I'll invoice for 100% of the total fee upfront. This is non-refundable.

For projects over 500GBP, I’ll invoice for 50% of the total fee upfront. This is a non-refundable deposit and reserves your spot in my diary. No project is confirmed until the money hits my bank account, so it's in your interest to pay this asap.

After this point, payment is due at each agreed milestone or on final delivery of the first draft — whichever we’ve agreed.

If I haven’t received feedback or comments within two weeks of submitting a draft to you (at any stage — the initial draft or subsequent edits), I’ll assume you’re happy the work has been completed and invoice you for the remaining % due.

I’m not registered for VAT and my payment terms are 14 days. I charge interest per day at 4% above Lloyds Bank plc base rate on any unpaid balances from the due date until payment is made in full.

Postponement

If you postpone a project with less than 14 days notice, I'll charge a 25% postponement fee (so the total price will be 125% of my initial quote), and we'll agree a new work schedule. The project will need to begin within six months of postponement or it will count as a cancellation — see below.

Cancellation

If you cancel a project with less than 14 days notice, I will retain your deposit and charge a late cancellation fee equal to 25% of the total project fee.

If you cancel a project after I have started work, I will retain your deposit and charge for the work I have undertaken up to the point of cancellation. This ‘kill fee’ will be based on the percentage of the project completed.
